No More The Night ©

Gordon Fjaelberg
Bridgend, Wales
1997

No more the night,
No more the night;
No more the hurried rushing
From your light.
You told the truth,
I turned away;
Please tell your simple truth
Just one more day.

I was a poor
Tormented fool,
All emotions damaged
And a heart grown cold.
I couldn't trust
Another, so
I really did believe
I'd let love go.

That's when the rock
Of my despair
Wrapped around me,
Keeping in the cold.
No sorrow now
From those who dared
To make me think
They're mine to hold.
No more, my heart,
No more, my heart;
Farewell to feelings,
Let my soul depart.

All symptoms fed
Life held no charm,
Propped up by prejudice
And free from harm.
Along you came
In your quiet way,
Trying to make me hear
What you would say.

No more the night,
No more the night;
No more the hurried rushing
From your light.
You told the truth,
I turned away;
Please tell your simple truth
Just one more day.

You showed concern
For such as I,
Gave me your friendship,
Told me I could fly.
Those foolish words
What could they mean?
I longed for emptiness,
Not self-esteem.
I bade you go,
None can make me fly;
Laughter and love
Are not for such as I.

As time went by
I realised
You were there still,
Waiting patiently.
You took my rage,
My words of hate;
Despite them all,
Returned to me.
My blindness fell,
My blindness fell;
Light filled the darkness,
No more empty shell.

No more the night,
No more the night;
No more the hurried rushing
From your light.
Keep showing truth
In your quiet way;
Weave your simple magic
One more day.
