It's Hard To Be A Bishop ©

It's hard to be a Bishop
And do what Bishops do,
Living in a Palace,
Admiring the view.
Waited on by servants,
They really put you through it;
It's hard to be a Bishop
Still, someone's got to do it.
It's hard to be a Bishop,
Avoiding unwashed hordes,
Chauffeur-driven comfort
Straight to the House of Lords.
Life can be purgatory
If only you but knew it;
It's hard to be a Bishop
Still, someone's got to do it.
It's hard to be a Bishop,
Appearing on TV,
Informing countless millions
Of things that bother me.
Preaching to a camera, just
Depends on how you view it;
It's hard to be a Bishop
Still, someone's got to do it.
It's hard to be a Bishop,
And travel half the globe,
Putting fancy hats on
While wearing silly robes.
My flock expect it of me
And so I must pursue it;
It's hard to be a Bishop
Still, someone's got to do it.
It's hard to be a Bishop,
Especially today,
Justifying scriptures,
Explaining God away.
The day of my enthronement
How bitterly I rue it;
It's hard to be a Bishop
Still - Someone's got to do it!
