Rabbies Legacy ©

Annemaria Cooper
Chapelton, Scotland
2006

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
that spooned wi the bonny lad
ah Rabbie’s a rascal, he’s no really bad.

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
who’s bodice wid come undone,
aw for Rabbie’s sport n’ fun.

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
that loves bonnie words,
but thae things Rabbie says, their absurd.

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
and he wrote a poem fur me,
But being a daft wee lassie, a cannae understand ye see.

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
I wis shivering an’ scared wae fright,
When Rabbie took me home thon night.

See I'm wan o’ thae lassies,
taken hame to the bard’s hoose.
But I dinna think Rabbie wid call me a moose.

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies
that dinnae ken thon eloquence
but I ken Rabbie stole my innocence

See I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
that wrestled in the hay
and Rabbie, said it fair made his day

But noo I’m wan o’ thae lassies,
wae a bonny faitherless bairn,
I’m wan o’ thae lassies, that’ll never learn.
