Electric Spear-Dodging ©

Danny Reynolds
Dalton in Furness, England
2006

The lights flashed and all heads turned
The instant silence conducted by Thor
6 seconds till his hammer fell,
yet so loud it should be overhead.
I had to be outside
just as when young
the tingle of the storm
drew me out to where the gods
could toss marbles at my head.
On such a big playing field
I fancied my chances.
Just as I was drawn out
so I drew in the warm air
that is both damp and dry
Just before the crack.
I just love storms.
