Irene McIsaac
Whitby, Ontario, Canada
2003

As the last moonbeam retreats
And the pale crescent fades from view,
The first rays of light cast early morning shadows
And the sun slowly rises above the mountain peak
A new day has begun...

As this wondrous source of energy
Awakens life in the forests and ocean beds,
It welcomes every new arrival to our world
And brightens the path for those who must depart
A new day has begun...

As man toils in his field of labour
And woman struggles to make ends meet,
The child cries from the aches of hunger
And questions, "Why am I here?"
A new day has begun...

Will this be the day of change?
